Join us at Nature Fest!

Join us for the 7th Annual Nature Fest, a free, family-friendly event featuring hands-on activities, wildlife education, and outdoor fun! Hosted by the Prairie Oaks Chapter of the Texas Master Naturalist program, Nature Fest brings together experts, volunteers, and community members to celebrate and learn about protecting the natural treasures of Central Texas. 

Designed with families in mind!

Every family receives a swag bag with nature goodies and activities to take home. Adults and kids alike will find something to love — whether it’s chatting with wildlife biologists, making butterfly crafts, taking a guided nature walk, or simply enjoying the native plants, insects, birds, and animals. Admission is free, and you are welcome to come and go as you please.

Join us for a free entomology expedition designed for children ages 4 and up!

Dive into the fascinating world of bugs and discover the amazing diversity of insects. The event will feature knowledgeable students from the Tarleton Entomological Society who will showcase a variety of bug specimens and share tips on identification. Join us at Southwest Dairy Day

Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will host the annual Southwest Dairy Day on Thursday, October 9, at the Double N Cowboy Church (7202 E. State Highway 6). The event, widely recognized as the largest dairy educational field day in Texas, draws roughly 500 participants from farm families, allied industry professionals, students, and community members. Participants will gather at the host site beginning at 8 a.m., enjoying vendor exhibits, sponsored lunch, and receiving two Dairy Outreach Program Area (DOPA) credits — a valuable addition to their nutrient management plans as mandated by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service. Bus tours to the Pepper Organic Dairy and Heifer Farm are scheduled from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., offering on‑site educational opportunities showcasing organic dairy production systems and management practices.

What to Expect at the 2025 Event

  • Organic Dairy Insights: Tour a certified organic dairy system—the Pepper Organic Dairy—highlighting pasture management, milking systems, and regenerative approaches.

STEM Day at the Dublin Public Library

Join us for an exciting hands-on adventure all about the ground beneath our feet! This engaging program is designed specifically for kids who are curious about the world around them. Participants will roll up their sleeves and dive into the fascinating world of soil, exploring various types and learning what makes each one unique.

Children will have the opportunity to touch, feel, and examine soils from various environments, understanding how factors such as texture, color, and composition contribute to their distinct characteristics. They'll learn why soil is so important for our ecosystem and how it supports plant and animal life.

After this soil exploration, the fun continues as we transition into a creative activity where we’ll work together to build a delicious "edible soil model." This hands-on project will allow kids to assemble and layer edible materials that represent the various layers of soil. As they construct their models, they'll gain insights into concepts like topsoil, subsoil, and bedrock, all while enjoying a tasty treat!

This interactive program is perfect for young scientists and curious minds who love discovery and a little bit of mess! So, come prepared to dig in (literally and figuratively) for a day filled with learning, creativity, and a whole lot of fun! Guided Nature Walk

Join us on a guided walk to explore the sights and sounds of the Ditch Water Discovery Center!

  • Date: Every fourth Saturday, weather permitting

  • Time: Tours begin at 9:00 AM and last about 15 minutes. The last tour starts at 9:45 AM. The Ditch will remain open for public exploration after the final tour.

  • Tours begin at the Ditch entrance and end at the classroom.

  • Closed-toed shoes are recommended.

  • Visitors are welcome to explore the Ditch independently or join one of our free guided tours.

The Ditch Water Discovery Center is a 3-acre educational facility, funded by the Middle Trinity Groundwater Conservation District, that exemplifies principles of sustainable land development. Located amidst extensive commercial developments, the center provides a rare green space within a densely populated community, with every element meticulously designed to enhance public understanding and engagement with conservation practices.

Conserve & Learn: Every Drop Counts

The Middle Trinity Groundwater Conservation District wants to invite families to visit The Ditch Water Discovery Center and learn more about groundwater! During this hands-on event, we will explore how much freshwater is available on Earth, where our water comes from, and why every drop matters. Through a fun and interactive "A Drop in a Bucket" demonstration, participants will gain a better understanding of water scarcity and conservation.

Families will take home a water-themed activity book so the learning can continue!

After the session, we invite families to take time to enjoy our native, sustainable environment at The Ditch as we walk and talk about our plant life and water conservation systems.
